One thing you have to know is that animal birthday cakes are very popular in kids and you can make a wide variety of cakes with a bit of creativity and smart use of different ingredients from your kitchen.

Here are some interesting ideas for animal birthday cakes along with ingredients and directions of each idea. If you kid is going to hold his/her birthday party, why not give him/her a surprise by making animal birthday cakes for your kids?

1.    Topical Fish Birthday Cake

This little fish friend can bring a smile on any child’s face and is super easy to make as well. Try it with different color combinations and enjoy the results.

Ingredients

  • Sponge cake
  • Different color frostings (yellow, blue)
  • Pastry bags
  • Nozzles for orange

Directions

  • Place the baked sponge (13X9) onto a flat tray and cut off the corners to make the oval shape. Using the cuttings make two fins and a tail as per the desired size and shape.
  • Fill a clean and dry pastry bag with orange decorating frosting, you can pick a color of your choice and can even layer different colors as stripes. Use the star shaped nozzle pipe to add frosting to the sponge, while leaving some space for the fins in the center.
  • Next, place some yellow frosting in a clean piping bag and attach a round nozzle to it. Pipe onto the fins and tail in a zigzag manner and make lips out of the same nozzle.
  • For the eyes, place a small piece of circular chocolate or a chocolate button and place where the eye should be. Line the fins and tail with some untainted frosting afterwards.
  • For water bubbles, take three cupcakes of similar or ascending size and use light blue frosting for decoration.

2.    Octopus Birthday Cake

If your child’s favorite animal is an octopus, this is the best and easiest way to create a cake. The fins, although may look difficult, but these are just some snack cakes placed on top.

Ingredients

  • Sponge cake batter
  • 6-inch baking pan
  • Different color frosting (yellow, blue)
  • Pastry bags
  • Different nozzles for colorful frosting

Directions

  • Prepare a cake mix for double layer size cake but ignore any directions for pan preparations.
  • Spread two cups of the batter in a 6-inch bowl, be sure that the bowl is ovenproof and is greased properly. Then, pour the remaining batter in a round, greased and ovenproof bowl.Bake the two cakes for 25minutes at 350 degree Fahrenheit or until a toothpick comes out clean, once inserted in the center of the cake. Cool the cakes before taking them out of their ramekins.
  • Place the cake pan batter on top of the serving platter and spread yellow frosting over it. Then place the round pan cake over the first cake and cover evenly with yellow frosting.
  • Next, carefully place eight long sponge cakes, preferable filled with cream towards the sides of the bottom layer evenly. After you are satisfied with the overall positions of the tentacles, spread blue frosting over the sponge cake in circles, using a writing tip nozzle.
  • To make the eyes,you can use small chocolate buttons or mint candies coated with chocolate, with a dot or smaller circle piped in the center of the eyes to give the illusion of a pupil.

3.    Monkey Cake

A monkey cake is perhaps the most creative way to have banana cake on your kids’ birthday! This cake is so interesting and easy to make that you can involve young children and family members while making it.

Ingredients

  • Peanut butter frosting
  • 8-inch cake (baked in a traditional way)
  • Chocolate flavored cereal crisps
  • Chocolate frosting

Directions

  • Bake an 8-inch cake in a round ramekin. After it cools, invert it onto the serving platter or a flat working surface. Mix half cup frosting with three tablespoons of peanut butter. Spread this mixture evenly over the top half of the cake, while giving it a monkey shape.
  • Next, place chocolate frosting over the remaining surface of the cake and spread chocolate flavored cereal crisps over the frosting. Also, place aside a few tablespoons of chocolate frosting in a plastic bag for later use.
  • Push the saved chocolate frosting in a corner of the plastic bag and cut a minute section to turn into a piping bag. Then carefully pipe the face, nose and eyes into the sponge layer. To make the eyes, use chocolate buttons and place them appropriately.
  • Take a large cookie such as peanut butter of chocolate chip cookie and cut in two equal pieces to make the ears of the monkey.
  • For an extra special touch take a banana peel and rub it with some lemon, and place it on the head of the monkey.

4.    Cheshire Cat Ice-cream Cake

For all the kids and adults out there with an obsession with cats, this is an interesting idea for a birthday cake or any special occasion.

Ingredients

  • Brownie (baked traditionally in a 9-inch round pan)
  • Crushed chocolate cookies
  • Chocolate ice cream
  • Two blue tortilla chips
  • Different color gumballs

Directions

  • Bake the brownie batter in a baking pan with foil lines. Then cool it totally, and lift it onto a cutting board with the foil being removed.
  • Place a 9-inch spring form on the brownie and cut all the way through. Place the circular brownie in a round pan and cover with chocolate ice cream completely. It is advisable for the ice cream to be softened in order to help it spread evenly. Freeze the cake for two hours and sprinkle crushed chocolate cookies all over.
  • To make the ears press two blue tortilla chips in the appropriate positions. For the eyes place two pieces of fruits on two white gumballs, you can use an orange gumball for the nose and use green licorice for whiskers.
  • To make the mouth, make two fondants of yellow and orange colors separately. On a wax paper, make alternate stripes in the shape of a smile. Once the fondant has cooled, invert it onto the cake in an appropriate position.
  • Freeze the cake for a minimum of four hours of twenty-four hours.

5.    Circus Cat Cake

A simple, yet intricate circus cat cake, which can feed up to forty guests, is the best option with a circus themed part.

Ingredients

  • Petal and half ball cake
  • Vanilla wafers
  • Chocolate nougat candies
  • Jelly discs

Directions

  • Take a petal and half ball cake and place the ball cake on top of the petal cake. Next, apply castor sugar or icing on the cakes.
  • Pipe the frosting on the sides and top surface of the petal cake using a star shaped nozzle.
  • Ice two vanilla wafers to make the ears.
  • Flatten out some chocolate nougat candy to make the nose and eyes. Next, place flat, circular jelly discs as cheeks.
  • Cut a waffle cone of 4 inches in length approximately, and ice it properly. This makes the hat.
  • Place the hat on top of the ball cake and using a piping bagpipe out some pompoms and add more features of your choice.
